EDINBURGH
EDINBURGH
Edinburgh Rugby Club competes in the Guiness Pro 12 League and they play their
home fixtures at the BT Murrayfield Stadium. They are one of the two professional
clubs in Scotland and are a team that has put together a proud history.
Their original side competed
in their first ever inter-district
match against Glasgow in
1872 and they went on to win
the fixture 3-0 against a side
who they have developed
a fierce rivalry with over the
years.
They were reformed in 1996
in order to compete in the
Heineken Cup and their best
performance to date came
when they managed to reach

the semi-final before narrowly
losing to Ulster by 22-19.
The quarter final attracted an
impressive 38,000 crowd to
watch them take on Toulose.
The current group of players
will be keen to add to the
team’s success over the
coming years.
Speaking to BBC Scotland
before the season, current
Head Coach Alan Scotland
outlined the team’s targets for
the year, saying, “This season
is about making Europe,
about the top six. The winds
of change have been blowing
and that’s part of the building
process. It’s great to see.
It’s been a long pre-season and
everybody is looking forward
to getting into competition.
We’re in a lot better place
than we were last year. We’ve
got greater strength in depth,
which is very important for a
competition of this nature.
