St Austell RFC is based at Tregorrick Park in Cornwall and their first team currently competes
in the Tribute South West 1 West League. They are led by Chairman Paul Hayes who is
supported by Secretary Craig Taylor and the club has made a considerable amount of
progress under their guidance.
They have put together a history of which they
have every right to be proud with the club’s
inaugural meeting taking place on July 31st 1963
and they played their home games at Cyprus
Avenue in Par Moor during their early years.
The team played its first game against a senior
side on April 11th in 1975 when they were beaten
by 21-12 against Penzance-Newlyn. Their first
win as a senior side came on April 7th 1976 when
they defeated Truro 13-5. They didn’t have to wait
for long for their next victory as they overcame St
Ives 19-11.
“It will certainly
be exciting to see
how they are able
to progress over
the course of the
season.”
Last season their first team put together a
strong season, compiling a record of 17 wins,
3 draws and 6 defeats from their 26 matches.
This saw them finish near the top of the table
with 91 points on the board.
This provided the club with a solid platform to
build upon during the off-season ahead of the
2014-15 campaign. The team developed a
reputation for playing an entertaining brand of
rugby and if they continue in the same manner
this season their fans are sure to be well
entertained.
It would be fair to say that they have not
perhaps got off to the start that they would
have liked this time around having won just
one of their first 4 matches. There is still plenty
of the season left to play however and they will
be confident of their ability to push on up the
table.
It will be important for them to gain some
positive results over the coming weeks in order
to build momentum and confidence. It will
certainly be exciting to see how they are able
to progress over the course of the season.
