LEIGH CENTURIONS
Leigh Centurions are one of the pioneers of Rugby League having been a founder member
in 1895. They are led by the team of Chairman Michael Norris and Life President Tommy
Sale MBE and the club has made a considerable amount of progress under their guidance.
They play their home games at
the Leigh Sports Village Stadium
having moved there from their
Hilton Park Ground in November
2008. The team has been
competing in the Kingstone Press
Championship in 2014.
They have swept aside all
challengers in the league so far
this season having put together
a record of having won 24 and
lost just one of their 25 matches.
This sees them in a commanding
position at the top of the table
well clear of any other sides with
73 points on the board.
A particular highlight of the teams
play has been the attacking brand
of rugby that they have managed
to produce. This has been
reflected by the fact that they
have racked up 996 points and
are the league’s top scorers by a
considerable margin. This has not
been detrimental to their defence
either as they’ve built a reputation
for being difficult to breach.
With the season drawing to a
close they will be determined to
finish it off on a high by claiming
some silverware. If they can
keep up their recent level of
performance they should be in
with a great chance of doing just
that.
One of the standout features of
their set-up is the superb work
that they are doing in the local
community. They have played a
vital role in the town for over 100
years now and are continuing
in this area through their new
community foundation.
The club is looking to encourage
schoolchildren as well as
the rest of the town to take
inspiration from rugby league.
