STRATHMORE STRATHMORE Strathmore RFC is a great example of a vibrant club that carries out a tremendous amount of good work both on and off the field. A number of Club Representatives took the time to give us an insight into the way they operate. Murray Duguid, Chairman Strathmore Sharks JRFC & Vice President (Juniors) Strathmore Rugby Club “I have been involved with Strathmore Sharks for around 8 years. I used to play at Strathmore with the schools but moved away with work. When I came back to Forfar, my son was old enough to play and I then got involved in coaching the kids and playing again for the 1st and 2nd team. It’s a family friendly club, with a great atmosphere. Going to Murrayfield for the Scottish Cup final’s day when Strathmore played has to be one of my top memories. I did not play but I was there with the ball boys and mascot. That, along with the Guinness World Record attempt day we tried at the club, for most passes made without dropping the ball, it was a laugh from start to finish, no record though. 44 ISSUE 48 Getting and retaining qualified coaches is one of our biggest challenges. The SRU rules on qualification levels is increasing for coaches and although I do not necessarily disagree with the requirements, it may put a lot of parents off getting involved as it requires a bigger commitment than they are willing/able to offer. It is also a challenge to gain Financial backing from sponsors as Angus is mainly a football county, with a recession, it is getting harder and harder to find a sponsor for the club.
