CINDERFORD CINDERFORD Playing their home games at The Beavis Memorial Ground on Dockham Road in Gloucestershire, Cinderford RFC currently competes in the National 1 League. They are led by the team of President Pete Bell and Chairman Mark Gayther and are looking to progress under their guidance. They have put together a history of which they have every right to be proud having first been established in 1886. Their fortunes were closely linked with the local mining community and sadly both declined during the inter-war years when a number of local players went North. The club came back strongly after the Second World War and returned to their home on Dockham Road in 1956. Since then over 50 years of hard work has ensured that this is now a thriving club with superb facilities that is the envy of many. Another benefit of having so many sides is that it allows the club to give far more plays a game every weekend. This helps to demonstrate what an important role they play in the local community. There is clearly much to admire about the superb set-up that Cinderford currently has in place and they have every reason to be optimistic for the new campaign. Hopefully they will continue to be able to prosper for many years to come and everyone at Rugby Club Magazine would like to wish them the best of luck for the season. One of the standout features of the Cinderford set-up is the superb youth section that they have in place. This part of the club looks to provide young players from the local area with an opportunity to play the game in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst helping them to reach their full potential. It is important for any club to be able to produce their own talent, particularly in the current financial climate and this is an area that they appear to have covered. Coaching staff overseeing their junior section are confident they have a number of players involved with the potential to go on and have an exciting future in the game. In order to help their youngsters to successfully make the transition into senior level rugby Cinderford also has a number of additional sides running. This allows them to give players experience of the adult game even if they are not yet considered ready for first team action which can be an important step in the development process. TRY US Y!
