DONCASTER PHOENIX We are in effect tenants but the facilities are indeed second to none, so any visiting team is always suitably impressed, it does however have the effect of lifting their game playing in such prestigious facilities.” Challenges/Ambitions “Finance and raising funds are always the big issues as our costs are always rising and as a tenant our club cannot rely on bar revenues generally considered the main stay of revenue from most clubs. Instead we have to rely on our sponsors, memberships and club events to keep the club finances alive to meet our rental fees along with the costs associated with turning out a senior side every Saturday. On the playing front we have set ourselves very high standards and combined with the prestige of playing out of Castle Park all visitors ‘appear’ to raise their game on visiting. Hence it is crucial for the players to raise their playing standards and ensure training commitments are met to maintain our Yorkshire 1 status and strive to rise through the leagues. The club ambition is to achieve National 3 rugby in the next three years, maintain our financial stability and seek to strengthen our playing base by developing the player pathway from Doncaster Juniors into Phoenix or Knights.” HORSE AND GROOM Come and enjoy a drink at The Horse and Groom, a lively, family run pub with a friendly atmosphere.
