WESSEX
WESSEX
Competing in the Tribute Devon 1 South
West Division, Wessex RFC plays their
home games at the Flowerpot Playing
Fields on Western Road in Devon. They
are led by the team of President Nigel
Gooding and Chairman Simon Farmer
and are looking to progress under their
guidance.
It is important for any side to be able to
produce their own talent, particularly in the
current financial climate and this is an area that
Wessex appears to have covered. Coaching
staff overseeing their juniors are confident that
they have a number of players involved with
the potential to go on and represent them at
senior level.
The signs were promising last time around
as they put together a record of having won
8, drawn 1 and lost 7 of their 16 matches.
This saw them finish in the top half of the
table with 39 points on the board.
This is also a club that is committed to playing
a vital role in the local community in any
way that they can. This was reflected when
they teamed up with Active Devon to deliver
Cricket and Tag Rugby sessions to around 100
children at Montgomery Primary School.
They will now have turned their attentions
towards the new campaign a nd last season’s
efforts should provide them with a good
chance upon which to build. They have had
a positive pre-season and will now be keen
to back this up with a good start.
One of the standout features of the Wessex
set-up is the superb work that they do
with regards to the development of young
players. This part of the club looks to provide
people with the opportunity to play the game
in a safe and enjoyable environment whilst
helping them to reach their full potential.

The event went superbly well as the afternoon
turned out to be both challenging and
enjoyable. Speaking to the club’s official
website Wessex RFC Captain Dan Morris said,
“It was a great opportunity for a local club like
Wessex to reach out into the community.”
There is much to admire about the set-up that
Wessex has in place both on and off the field
and this is thanks to the terrific work that their
Committee have been doing. Hopefully they
will be able to continue in the same manner for
many years to come and everyone at Rugby
Club Magazine would like to wish them the
best of luck.
