BROAD PLAIN
Broad Plain RFC has enjoyed a successful
off-season and there is now plenty of
excitement for the new campaign around
the club. Representative Nick Jeanes took
the time to tell us more about some of the
good work that they’ve been doing in a
variety of different areas.
Atmosphere
He started by telling us about the positive
atmosphere that has been generated at the
club, saying, “The mood here is upbeat, we lost
10 1st team players 2 seasons ago, following
a double promotion and a relegation, but there
has been a large influx of new players since,
which seems to be continuing this season.
We are looking forward to next season and
anticipating improved performance and
attracting and retaining even more players.
The Juniors keep expanding, so much so that
we have to think of limiting numbers in some
squads.”
Youth
“Youth cricket is hugely important; not only to
support the senior squads, but also to give kids
in this area a chance to enjoy the benefits of
rugby. There are some fairly deprived areas in
south Bristol so the club has an important role
to play in developing youngsters in a positive
way.”

on a rainy winter Sunday. With around 20-30
kids in this squad, each year it pops out a new
Under-7 squad, we just need to persuade a
couple of their parents to coach them, and
we’ve got another squad!
Importantly, the guys who coach the Nursery
are not parents, so are not tempted to follow
their own child up through the years. I would
recommend this to any club wanting to start a
junior section from scratch. It may take a few
