MONTROSE & DISTRICT MONTROSE & DISTRICT Montrose and District Rugby Club are based at Union Park on Whinfield Road in Angus and their first team is due to compete in Division 3 of the BT Caledonia League in the coming season. They are led by President Terry Gibbons who is supported by Treasurer Gordon Clark and the team is looking to progress under their guidance. Montrose itself is a coastal resort town in Angus, Scotland and is situated 38 miles north of Dundee between the mouths of the North and South Esk rivers. It has a population of around 12,000 and functions as a port with its main employer being GlaxoSmithKline. This is important because it will help anyone involved to enjoy their time at the club. This in turn should enable them to attract and retain quality players. Regardless of results it will also ensure that there is always a good atmosphere at the club. The rugby club itself is a major part of the community within the town, providing people from the local area with a chance to get involved in the game. As well as taking part in fixtures they also have a reputation for having a strong social side to the club. One of the main parts of any club is their 1st XV and they will be determined to have a good campaign this time around. They enter the season full of optimism having had a positive pre-season and will now be keen to string a god run of results together early on in order to build some momentum. 16 ISSUE 48
