YORK
ACORN
York Acorn ARLFC was first established in August 1973 and moved to their present
location in 1990 after a tremendous effort from players and volunteers to establish
their own clubhouse.
It was officially opened in 1991 with facilities
including a main room, a bar area, 4 changing
rooms and two pitches.
This is a club that is always looking to encourage
as many people into sport as possible and they
play a vital role in their local community.
They received their reward for this approach when
they were awarded Club Mark Gold accreditation
in 2011 and are determined to continue to move
forwards in the coming years.
Their first team have made a steady start to their
current league campaign up to now, managing
to put together a record of having won 4, drawn 1
and lost 4 of their first 9 matches.
This has left them sitting a safe mid-table position
in the table.

This should provide them with a good platform
upon which to build as the season progresses.
They will be keen to put a good run of form
together in their upcoming matches and if they
do so then they will quickly climb the league.
One of the standout features of York Acorn is the
fantastic work that they do when it comes to the
development of young players.
They have a number of teams in place which look
to provide people with an opportunity to play the
game in a safe and enjoyable environment.
It is important for any club to be able to produce
their own talent, particularly in the present
financial climate and this is an area that they
appear to have covered.
It will certainly be exciting to watch to see how
their youngsters are able to develop over the
coming years.
In order to try to ensure that their youngsters
enjoy a smooth transition into the senior game
the club also has a 2nd team in place. This allows
them to give players experience of adult level
rugby even if they are not yet considered ready for
first team action.
There is much to admire about the set up that
York Acorn has in place as they are a terrific
example of how a club can make progress if it
does things correctly.

Hopefully they will be able to continue in the
same manner for many years to come and Rugby
Club Magazine wishes them all the best.
