Progression
CALDICOT
Caldicot RFC is based on Longfellow Road in Monmouthshire and their first team has
just enjoyed a solid season competing in SWALEC Leagues Division 4 East. They are a
club that plays a vital role in their local community and Rugby Club Magazine caught
up with their Secretary Keith Mellens to find out more about the good work that they
have been doing.
Involvement
He started by
telling us about his
involvement with
the club, saying, “I
originally played
rugby for the youth
section of the club
in 1972 and have
been a member ever
since. Seeing players
progress through our
youth team and then
representing the club
at senior level is one
of the most rewarding
factors of being
involved.”
Atmosphere
“The atmosphere here
is very positive at
the moment and we
are looking forward
to next season
with optimism and
enthusiasm. The youth
team have just won
the District Youth
Plate and the Athletic
team have won the
Newport, Pontypool
and Gwent District
Division 1 League title.
Our first team have
competed strongly
in Division 4 East. We
have a young squad
and believe that the
side will continue to
improve next season.”
Community
“We are a community
club providing
opportunities for all
age groups.
Youth rugby is very
important to the club
and almost all of our
senior squad originally
played youth rugby
for us. We hold joint
