getting around bangkok Ferry Boats: Ferry boats are even more unusual but equally convenient that plies along the Chao Phraya River. Some would ferry passengers to cross the river along the banks for 2 Baht per person while others run a longer route to various terminal landing along the river, going up as far as the northern suburb of Nonthaburi. Fare ranges from 5 Baht to 20 Baht per person depending on distance. Signs at the landing terminals are posted in both Thai and in English. Rental Car: If you want to experience driving in Bangkok, there are many rental car companies in Bangkok, including international ones such as Hertz, Budget and Avis. The road system is good and well-posted with signs written in Thai and in English. An international driving license is required. Trains: The State Railway of Thailand runs an efficient rail service linking Bangkok (Hua Lam Phong is the central station) to the rest of the country at very reasonable prices via express, fast and ordinary trains. Limited western and southern routes out of Bangkok also operate from the Thonburi Station traveling to destinations as far as Kanchanaburi province in the west and Chumpon province in the south.
