Close call for bristol cub
By Arminel Scott
A fox cub became entangled overnight in a football goal net on the 27th April . Home owners found the fox the next morning , trapped in the netting which was tightly wound around its neck and only just conscious .
advised it should be taken into them as soon as possible for an examination . It was a little female cub – they called her Pax .
A blood sample was taken and she was sedated and put on a drip and into a warm cubicle to try to revive her . The blood results were all OK and miraculously the cub looked alert and bright after 12 hours . She was offered food which she ate straight away .
It had been raining heavily that night so it was drenched through and felt cold . They quickly worked to cut the net away from the cub ’ s neck and when it was free it lay collapsed and motionless . They were very concerned and rang their local vet who kindly
All seemed well but she needed a little more time to fully recover and she needed extended monitoring in case any underlying problems were to emerge .
So the RSPCA was contacted and the cub came to West Hatch for this extended care .
Eventually the cub was deemed fit for release by our Vet and I contacted the family who were delighted that she was better and ready to return home .
They have foxes visiting every night so all seemed as it was when Pax left – except that the goal net was secured very tightly to the top bar so no more accidents could happen .

I ’ m happy to say that it went very well and the cub after some very loud calling managed to alert her parents that she was home and they disappeared into the night .
