Hare facts
• There are three different species of Hare in the UK . Brown Hare , Mountain Hare and the Irish Hare ( a subspecies )
• The Brown Hare can reach speeds of up to 45 mph
• Normally live for 3-4 years but can live for much longer
• Hares are solitary and only pair to mate
• An adult Brown Hare weighs around 2-5kg and is 50 -70 cm long

• Baby rabbits are totally dependent on their mothers
• Fully weaned by 21 days
• Rabbits are smaller than Hares and have shorter hind legs and ears
• If threatened , they will run underground for cover
• Rabbits are very social and live in colonies

What are the differences between Rabbits and Hares ?
• A baby rabbit is called a Kitten and a young Hare is called a Leveret .
• Rabbits and hares may look similar but they are a completely different species but both are from the Leporidae family .
• Rabbits are born with their eyes closed and without fur . Leverets are born with their eyes open and fully furred .
