RPAYC - CHRISTMAS CRUISE REPORT_2024-2025 | Page 17

NEW YEARS DAY
New
Years Day started with a morning snorkel in the ‘ shark cave ’. Before the RPAYC risk committee has conniptions , the committee members should note that this activity was preceded by the this post on new year ’ s eve .
“ This is totally at the sole risk of each participant . Just to be clear , it is not an rpayc sanctioned activity . I know NOTHING about how risky or not this is . If you don ' t know either , ask Matt and Jo tonight .” And also
“ For those who are uncertain about the grey nurse experience you can take a face mask and snorkel and just lean over the edge of your tender . Will let you know about the swell later .”
Having said this I am reliably informed that it was a totally exhilarating experience which generated a huge ‘ high ’ and sense of self achievement amongst the group . Below are some photos of that morning .
The photo on the left is Jo , Marg and Peter with his GoPro entering the cave . The others are already in the cave . Nigel is standing guard in his tender . Although I call it a cave because my geology is a bit rusty , it is really a passage between the rocks so that the swell surges from one side and sweeps through to the other side . This is why Matt and I had to check the swell earlier in the day to make sure that it was not too strong . The other photo on the left is of our parking attendant Matt with a string line to all of the participants tenders which he minded whilst they snorkelled .
