THERE’S something a little different in store for fans
at this year’s Royal Rock. The headline act is Jeremy
Loops, a genre-defying band with an eclectic style
that borrows liberally from jazz, rock, folk and hiphop.
This four-piece band from Cape Town is made up
of front man Jeremy Hewitt, vocalist/rapper Motheo
Moleko, Jamie Faull on sax/keys/drums and Sean
O’Tim on bass/drums. Together they bring a completely different, alternative folk music sound.
When performing live the band creates loops,
which they layer with various instruments, including
guitars, harmonicas, banjos, and even beatboxing.
Jeremy Loops’ debut album Trading Change
went to number one on South Africa’s iTunes on release, and spent nearly two months in the top spot.
The band has a large fan base here in South Africa,
and has achieved extensive social awareness in the
United States, United Kingdom, Germany and the
Netherlands.
Last year, they opened for American duo Twenty
One Pilots on a regional UK and European 12-date
tour, and they’ve played sold-out performances
at the Islington Assembly Hall in London, and the
Webster Music Hall and the Brooklyn Ballroom in
New York. They have performed at MUSEXPO in Los
Angeles, the Great Escape in Brighton, the World
Music Festival in Delhi and Mumbai, the Secret Garden Party in the UK, and MAMA in Paris and Prague.
The band is all set for their third 20-city US tour
later this year, but first this world-class act is coming
to the Royal Show. Be sure to catch them on Saturday, May 28. See the Royal Show timeline for details.
Don’t forget: You could win a meet-and-greet with
