Rana Bahadur Tamang
Office Assistant
Rana Bahadur Tamang left Dhading over thirty five years ago.
Coming from a family of farmers, he decided that he didn’t want
to follow in their footsteps. At the age of 19, he went to Pokhara
and found a job as a porter. Working in the Annapurna region
for a while, he then joined Ganesh Himal as a store keeper. It
was here that he first met Shiva Dhakal. Working as a cook,
Rana Bahadur sometimes went trekking with Shiva. So when
Shiva decided to set up his own company with some friends,
Rana Bahadur was happy to join them as an office assistant.
After six or seven years, Shiva went on to set up Royal Mt
Trekking and Rana followed, working sometimes in the office,
sometimes driving and sometimes trekking: a bit of everything.
Then finally in 2005 Royal Mountain Travel was created, first
with its office in Durbar Marg, moving three years after to its
current location just behind the Yak & Yeti.
Rana Bahadur has an important role at RMT behind the scenes.
He looks after all the stores and trekking equipment, keeps
control of stock and looks after everyone at the office, making
sure that they are fed and watered, and that they have a clean
and tidy office to work in. He runs errands for the company and
most important, makes sure that all the bills are paid.
Proud to be the longest serving member of staff working with
Shiva, at 55 years of age, Rana Bahadur has worked most of
his working life for him. Settled in Sama Khosi, he has a son
and daughter and is a proud grandfather.
