HOW TO

Knitting & Crochet
Magazine 64
By Katherine Lymer
With the arrival of Rowan’s Autumn Winter
Magazine, my thoughts turn towards the colder
months ahead and welcome opportunities for
colour, warmth and woolly comfort – and none
so more than this year, where Magazine 64 is
a celebration of all the colour work, cables and
yarny-wonderfulness that we have come to
associate with Rowan over their 40-year history.
We want you to be able to share in its entirety
and so have written this “How To” to cover the
colour-work and embellishment techniques
needed to knit your own versions of the new
collections.
Knitting with colour in an all-encompassing
expression, which can evolve as the knitter gains
more experience or, as for me, as they develop
an immediate and over-whelming desire to knit
a specific garment (in my case, I learnt fairisle
to knit Fyne, from Magazine 42). One of the
beautiful elements of Magazine 64 is that it
includes all elements of colour knitting, from
knitting with one colour at a time (to produce
stripes and slipped stitch patterns) to designs
using fairisle and intarsia techniques.
