Across the South African winelands, multi-farm trails are turning the journey between estates into part of the experience. Some are luxurious slackpacking affairs, while others require stronger legs.

Tulbagh Disa Trail Offered once a year in spring, this four-day, 75km trail takes just 50 hikers through mountain tracks, orchards, streams and farmland across the Witzenberg Valley. Wine farms feature along the way, with walkers returning each evening to Saronsberg Vineyard Cottages. The event raises funds for local non-profits.
Rate: 3 – 6 September 2026 | R7 500 pp sharing. Includes accommodation, meals and trail transport.
Green Mountain Trail, Overberg Four days of guided walking through private and protected fynbos, fruit farms and vineyards of the Elgin and Bot River valleys, paired with four-star accommodation and excellent food. Daily distances range from 11 – 18km, with wine and lunch stops along the way.
Rate: From R20 950 pp sharing. Includes four-star accommodation, all meals, trail snacks, local wine tastings and guided walks.
Excelsior Wine Walk, Robertson Three days of guided walking through vineyards, orchards and neighbouring farms, with Excelsior Manor as your base. Daily 9 – 13km routes combine Robertson’ s wine country with memorable stops, including a picnic lunch aboard the Viljoensdrift river barge.
Rate: Three-night package from R7 350 pp sharing; four-night packages from R8 800 pp sharing for 2026.
Stellenbosch Meander Slackpacking Adventureshop’ s three-day, point-to-point trail threads its way from Stellenbosch through mountain and vineyard country towards Banhoek and Boschendal. Luggage is transported while walkers carry only a daypack, with guided and self-guided options available. Daily distances are roughly 12 – 19km.
Rate: From R13 200 pp sharing, including two nights’ stay, breakfast, luggage transport and specified transfers. Tastings, lunches and dinners are add-ons.
