most spiritually significant sites, and it looks every bit the part. The surrounding villages are known for generations-old craft traditions: hand-carved wooden figures, burnished pottery, and the resonant beat of Venda drums. This is living culture, not a gift-shop recreation of it.
Mopani Head east and you enter the Valley of the Olifants( Elephants), and the elephants will confirm this immediately. Mopani is the gateway to Kruger National Park’ s northern reaches, accessed through gates like Phalaborwa and Punda Maria. Big Five territory, yes, but quieter and far less travelled than the southern sections, where the tour buses queue like it’ s rush-hour traffic. When To Go Limpopo is hot – committedly, unapologetically hot. October to February brings rain and peak malaria risk in certain areas, so carry repellent and consult your doctor. May to August offers cooler days, superb game viewing, and skies so blue they look digitally enhanced. Distances between attractions are significant, so rent a car, download an offline map, and abandon any notion of fitting everything in. Limpopo isn’ t a province you tick off, it’ s a place where going with the flow is part of the experience.
