poem where I am worm
after Konohanasakuya-hime
BY Kateema Lee
Today under a canopy
of cherry blossoms,
you dance on fallen petals,
you sing like larks
laughing at winters past.
you tell me I’m a worm
waiting for wet soil,
waiting to tunnel deep
to hide from bloom and sun,
waiting to hide from you.
you laugh at the way I writhe
on the sidewalk, helpless,
lost in your song
before I’m caught in your talons.
