Flight
BY M.S. Rooney
A barn owl flies north,
belly white with moonlight,
heart-shaped face scanning
for movement,
for sound,
for flesh,
unconcerned
with me, with my eyes following
what looks so like
pure freedom, pure
and random love
of flight.
M.S. Rooney lives in Sonoma, California with her husband, poet Dan Noreen. Her work appears in journals, including BLUESTEM, THE CORTLAND
REVIEW, ILLUMINATIONS, MAIN STREET RAG, THEODATE, and 3:AM MAGAZINE, and anthologies, including AMERICAN SOCIETY: WHAT POETS SEE,
edited by David Chorlton and Robert S. King (FutureCycle Press). Her work
has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
