amuel Silva was born in 1983 in a small city called Viana do Castelo in northern Portugal. His drawing, even at the tender age of two, was way ahead of his peers. Over the years, Samuel honed his drawing skills and the product of numerous hours of practice is evidenced by his lifelike drawing. Samuel uses ball point pens, yes, regular Bic ballpoint pens, to create his masterpieces which can take up to 50 hours to complete.
He does not mix or blend colours and once his pen hits the surface of the paper canvas, nothing can be erased. “I cross hatch different colours and create layers which give the illusion of blending and the illusion of tonal variances within the picture. ”He says, “I began drawing and developing my own style of ballpoint pen drawing when I was still a scholar and my art has developed and progressed from there.”
Samuel Silva is an attorney by profession, but his calling as an artist seems to be a dream he wishes to fulfil and bring full circle. Samuel also utilises a variety of other art mediums such as chalk, pencil, coloured pencil, pastels, oils and acrylics.
