Suzuki Swift is a gift
My way or the highway!
f I had a choice of any entry level vehicle available in the South African market, it would be the Suzuki Swift. Why? Because I can spot a well-built vehicle a mile off and the Suzuki Swift emits a signature, with its modern styling, highly competitive pricing and its abundance of features that puts all of its competitors to shame. “Sis man!” is what my buddy Walter said when looking at the Swift. Sis in this context means good. Well I agree, the Swift is an all-round winner. It’s at the top of my wish list. I want one!
As a struggling writer, faced with the ever-increasing burden of longer hours and fewer pennies, harshly imposed upon me by an editor trying to claw his way out from the clutches of the sheriff of the court and constantly moving premises to evade eviction and repossession of a dented filing cabinet and a three-legged office chair, it is the writing … and only the writing, that keeps me going at RTB. Okay, I do occasionally self-medicate to reduce my stress levels and I drink on weekends, but generally I’m a sought after employee with a string of qualifications I purchased off the internet. See how Swiftly you can lose direction!
Back to the Suzuki Swift. Did I mention I want one? Well I do! The Suzuki Swift starts at a very affordable R 126 900.00 for the base model Swift 1.2 GA manual. This model has a string of features which include air conditioning, power steering, high level brake light, ABS braking, EBD and dual airbags.
My Swift choice would not be the 1.2 GA model but rather the next model up which is the Swift 1.2 GL priced at R 136 900.00. For the extra R 10 000.00, which equates to a marginal increase in monthly instalments if the vehicle is financed, the Swift 1.2 GL offers all the extras found in the GA 1.2 plus a radio/CD/MP3, central locking, electric windows, fog lamps, a multi-function steering wheel and their renowned keyless entry system. Let me put it to you this way. If you fitted the multifunction steering wheel to the Swift 1.2 GA model, it would probably cost in excess of R 10 000.00, so you can understand why the Swift 1.2 GL is a much better purchase.
The Swift 1.2 GA, 1.2 GL and 1.2 GL automatic all come with a 2-year 30 000km service plan and the Swift 1.4 GLS, 1.4 GLS automatic and 1.6 Sport all enjoy a 3-year 60 000km service plan. The consumption index on the 1.2 Swift is pegged at a frugal 5.5 l/100km, which is good news given the morbidity of fiscal markets at the moment and the consequent need to save where possible. One look at the current US bond markets, that they are trying desperately to prop up, should be indication enough. Stash your bucks under your bed! Cash in your investments! Buy property! Okay, let’s get back to cars. Eish!
This hot hatch offers a perfect combination of value for money, dynamic driving performance, solid sportiness, excellent build quality and great looks, making it the overall car of my choice. As I said earlier in the article … I REALLY want one!
