Something we do as humans is ignore; people, problems, and feelings, especially our own. I believe the girl in this story is disregarding her feelings, and trying to hide them. We think that if we avoid recognizing our feelings and struggles, we won't feel or have to face them any longer. This is not true. The line, "...she sweeps her guilt out the door, and the wind blows it back in again," makes me think about the effort we put into masking our feelings, when our efforts will fail. It is impossible to reject our feelings without a negative outcome.
