This quote from The Glass Castle, a memoir by Jannette Walls, connects perfectly to the theme I found within struggle. The father in the story, Rex, is a heavy alcoholic. Rex comes home drunk one night and destroys the family's first official Christmas by lighting the tree on fire. The mother and children don't know what to do and ultimately make the decision to not interviene. I believe that by ignoring the father's demolition, he won't learn the consequences of it. The family's struggle is Rex's alcoholism, and they do nothing to stand up to him, causing even more issues.
