New Generations (Youth) Month
September is New Generations Month. Our Youth programs at Northlakes Toukley have always been a
major part of club activities. One such program, the Rotary Youth Leadership Award, has played a major role
in our youth programming. We have enabled many young people to experience this ‘life changing’ program
over the years and will continue to do so in the future.
Here is a brief explanation of the program as described in the District 9685 RYLA Website.
This year, the RYLA week will be from Sunday 11h January to Saturday 17th January.

What is RYLA?
An award that a Rotary Club gives to celebrate and reward the outstanding contribution of one or more
young person in the local community.
A week -long “life changing” experience for 80 + young adults who are in the early stages of their career sponsored by District 9685 Rotary Clubs.

The RYLA program is designed to:
Encourage leadership development of young adults by young adults.
Publicly recognize and reward young adults who give their time and serve as leaders in a range of youth
organisations in our local community.
Provide a seminar course to improve and enhance leadership skills for Youth Leaders and potential leaders.

Who is it for?
Young adults - 18 to 27 years of age and at least one year out of school.
Young leaders in the community or those who aspire to leadership
Young adults seriously committed to development of their leadership skills
Young leaders from Sporting Clubs, Scouts & Guides, Church Groups, Surf Clubs, Businesses, Tertiary
Institutions and all Community Groups

Head Man
I complained to my barber that my hairline seemed to be receding and that there was a worrisome thinning
in front. "A bald forehead means you're a thinker," he said encouragingly.
I liked that, but wondered aloud about the top spot. "That means you're a lover," he replied.
Now I was really feeling good - until he looked me in the eye and added, "Of course if you lose hair in
front and on top, that means you only think you are a lover."
