Rotaract membership is a journey of
experiences and professional growth.
The reasons for which we join Rotaract vary and so
does our impact in Rotaract, our various communities
as well Rotary International in general. Therefore, it is
important to view Rotaract membership as a journey of
positive experiences and various professional growth
processes that
Strategically place us personally and career-wise to
positively impact the communities we reside in and the
world as a whole. Talk to people and do it appropriately and genuinely.
Know your club members, but also go a little bit outside
your Club and know other partners in services. Make
time to know and also remember the people within the
societies you do community work as well as those you
call upon for support as far as corporate organizations
are concerned.
How one approaches Rotaract or Rotary is so much
relevant to how they approach life in general. If not,
then I have to believe there is a certain learning
opportunity therein considering the goals of Rotaract
very much build on this very notion, say; professional
and leadership skills development, dignity, respect and
honest collaboration. My journey up until now has been a bundle of roses and
a few thorns. Nonetheless, all have been fundamental
in the journey I have taken with the Rotaract club of
Kololo. Every good has been a moment to celebrate
and every bad a period to reflect over and pivot. Every
friend has been a smile to flash and every criticism
a chalk writing on the drawing board to ponder over.
Try to be as responsible as much as possible and hold
yourself as well as everyone around you accountable in

directly and indirectly.
To think any one member of Rotaract does not adhere to
these values bring so much in question. Yes, of course
there have been people who have joined or associated
themselves with Rotary for pretty much all the wrong
and unscrupulous reasons which is sad but then again
humans are humans! And the more anyone person
learns to manage their expectations says a lot about
the maturity and positive approach to life situations.
As Rotaractors and Rotarians, it’s important to be
one in person with our respective Clubs, be good
by them but it’s also more important to be good by
ourselves. You as a person come first before the Club
and the Club shall always be there long after you are

a lot of ups and downs, we learn and unlearn a lot
of things we meet new people, drop a lot of friends
along the way but most importantly learn the value of
meaningful networks.
We learn to appreciate giving and helping selflessly
but also learn that we shall not always have to give
just because we should. Don’t give because you
are required to but because in that situation, at that
particular moment you do genuinely feel like giving and
helping. It is far more rewarding and fulfilling inwardly.
Don’t spend your Rotaract journey building experiences
on things that you didn’t like, moments spend with
people you just didn’t approve of, spending money
you simply either didn’t have or had but were not in
position to give up.
