EDITOR’S NOTE WATER IS THE MOTHER OF THE VINE. They say a drop of water, if it could write out its own history, would explain the universe to us. Water is vital for all forms of life. Although it provides no calories or organic nutrients, water plays an important role in our world. It is the centre piece of all life or I would like to think it is. Water is one of the most important resources of our lives, actually the most important resource. It is the voice of being, in fact, water is life- I know this is a cliché or sounds like one but when the wells, taps, boreholes or even the water dispensers in your offices run dry, that’s when you know the true value and worth of water. Water is vital for all forms of life. Although it provides no calories or organic nutrients, water plays an important role in our world. It is the centre piece of all life. Around 2.1 billion people across the world lack access to safe and readily available water and everyday over 800 children around the world die from preventable diseases caused by poor water and lack of sanitation. The question is, what are you doing about it?. Let us collaborate with communities around us that are in dire need of the resource in whatever way or manner possible and be the hand that provides and improves their water, sanitation and lives even if the said improvement is gradual. The Rotaract club of Kololo has been able to contribute in this area through its project in Kasenke Slum, Water and sanitation activities and campaigns, promoting awareness in this area as well as through The “Kololo for Bunyonyi” project in Kabale District, This is a great step and there is still a lot that will be done in furtherance of this initiative. Let us empower communities to effectively manage springs, wells and any other water infrastructure, promote collective environmental care and management and increase the proportion of people with improved basic sanitation and hygiene.
