LIFE IS A HIGHWAY!!!!
ISIMBA VOCATIONAL TOUR.
This is not a happy story and if you are hoping to get some sleep tonight then I really advise
against reading this until you are in a safe place and in broad day light. I exaggerate not!.
Driving at night can be scary, now imagine that at 2:00am. The journey started off with a lot of
enthusiasm and anticipation for the coming events even though it was late in the night or early
in the morning. As we approached Mbalala, something strange happened, the car slowed down
and suddenly came to a stop and after what felt like eternity of trying to get the car started and
standing by the roadside for help, we saw this incredibly tall gentleman coming from behind a
tree, covered with hair from head to toe. As he approached us you could see a pure look of hate
in his eyes and an axe. We started running towards the bushes - which was obviously a bad
decision- and we were chased by the man with the axe for some time. We ran with no sense of
direction whatsoever while trying to look for a hiding spot. After about 7 minutes of running I felt
a hand grab me, on realizing I had been caught by the man with an axe, I…...
OKAY…..REWINNNND, THAT IS NOT THE STORY, THIS IS A HAPPY STORY
The Rotaract Club of Kololo is known for among other
amazing things, timekeeping, events unfold as long as
there is requisite quorum at the proposed time, the
22nd day of February, 2019 was not going to be any
different. We set off at exactly 5:50pm and the “On
the Road” fellowship began at exactly 6:00pm. We had
introductions of all our guests including our conductor
who turned out to be very chatty and free spirited. We
however agreed to let our driver focus and he would
introduce himself when we got to our destination-
such good children we are. Fellowship was amazing
and if anyone needs evidence I can arrange a couple
of reliable witnesses. We had guests on board so we
made all of them feel comfortable and by the time we
got to Jinja we were thicker than thieves.
We reached Jinja at about 10pm and had to go through
Paul Mabonga to get to our accommodation, we made
calls and he just kept telling us to drive which we did
until we reached a place where the road seemed to be
gradually disappearing. We later found him and were
reunited with the members that had travelled earlier
as well as our twin Club members of Nairobi Muthiaga
North and we lived happily ever after.
After exchanging pleasantries, freshening up and of
course having a fabulous meal, it was time for games.
We spent a great portion of our time bonding with
our twin Club members-The Rotaract Club of Naiirobi
Muthiaga North. We played all games and popular
among these was “Cards Against Humanity” which
was played till the early morning hours, the tables
would tempt even ghosts to participate because of the
fun and happiness that was going around.
They say eating is a multi-sensory experience so
believe me when I say all our senses were awakened
by Shamsa’s cooking. We had sensuous feasts fit for
kings and queens from the time we landed in Jinja
to the time we left. The meals were scrumptious,
mouthwatering and velvety and by the time we left Jinja
we had resolved to open multiple restaurants across
the country because of the cooking skills that had
been displayed by our own so if you see a “Warriors”
restaurant next to you, believe that it belongs to the
Rotaract Club of Kololo.
On Saturday the 23rd day of February, we set off at
exactly 9:00am to Isimba dam which is approximately
60km from Jinja town. We hadn’t really planned on
being amazed, we thought we would see a couple of
electric polls, some water and a couple of machines
and be on our way.
