Buddy says , “ The Conservancy ’ s efforts are to enhance and protect all the properties on Kiawah and its environs , so the staff makes their knowledge base available to all homeowners . We can all play a role in strengthening our ecosystem by making space for a few native plants . Participating in such an event opens the door to a deeper involvement with the Conservancy . We are very fortunate as a community to have dedicated volunteers at the organizational level who guide the Conservancy . They do an incredible job of providing the foundation that allows the Conservancy staff to achieve their objectives .”
When asked to describe which aspect of his involvement has been the most rewarding so far , Buddy commended the work of the staff . He compared watching the Conservancy staff working together to the tight research group he was involved with in his younger days . “ I ’ m more than happy to give up some of my time if it contributes to the success of the staff . The initiatives they develop will have lasting impacts on the sustainability of our natural environment .”
Buddy is also a bluebird steward and enjoys observing wildlife and natural spaces . He often rides his bike through Ocean Park and sits on his back porch listening to the “ cacophony of sounds ” in the evenings . “ There is so much tranquility for anyone who looks for it .” The Conservancy appreciates Buddy ’ s like-minded vision for preserving the natural beauty around us and we look forward to seeing him in his bright , tie-dyed shirt ready to lend a helping hand .
