WHERE ARE YOU FROM ?
I am originally from Orlando , Florida , but I attend school at the University of East London in England .
HOW DID YOU CONNECT TO THE CONSERVANCY ?
I visited Kiawah a few times after my family moved here and found it absolutely beautiful , so I decided to find internships here for the summer . After researching , I found the Kiawah Conservancy perfectly fits my goals and skills .
WHAT ' S YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO KIAWAH ISLAND ?
DO YOU HAVE EARLY MEMORIES OF KIAWAH ISLAND ?
My family moved to Seabrook Island after I graduated high school . I had only visited Seabrook and Kiawah a handful of times before this summer , but spending the past few months here has allowed me to explore and see all the beauty the islands offer .
HAS YOUR EXPERIENCE AS AN INTERN RELATED TO
WHAT YOU ’ VE STUDIED AT SCHOOL ?
As a politics and international relations student , I wanted to see how politics impacts conservation and how conservation groups like the Kiawah Conservancy shape politics and the community . This summer , I have been able to see this and have found my passion to become even stronger !
WHAT DREW YOU TO THE CONSERVANCY ?
After seeing some of the projects and events put on by the Conservancy , it was clear that this group of highly passionate people shared the same goals as me . Seeing this dedication and support made choosing to work with the Conservancy an easy decision .
WHICH PROJECTS FROM YOUR INTERNSHIP WERE
ESPECIALLY INTERESTING TO YOU ?
The most exciting aspect of working with the Conservancy would have to be the Junior Explorer ’ s program and events . Seeing how excited and involved kids are in conservation and nature is incredibly rewarding .
WHAT ARE YOU DOING NEXT ?
After finishing my internship , I will return to London to finish my last year of school . I will also be doing competitive cheerleading with London Dynasty Cheer . I want to return to the Charleston area after I graduate and possibly even work with the Kiawah Conservancy again !
