TEACHERS WHO WORK IN CAI-SUPPORTED COMMUNITY SCHOOLS IN AFGHANISTAN
Ustad Farishta:“ As a teacher in Dasht-e Owch, I see Nawroz as a happy time for my students. They often talk about the food their families prepare. Most students say their favorite Nawroz food is Samanak. They like it because it is made once a year and the whole family helps to prepare it. Some students also enjoy Bolani and simple rice dishes. These foods make Nawroz special and joyful for them.”
Ustad Hasna:“ My students feel very excited when Nawroz comes. In class, they like to talk about the food at home. Many students say Samanak is their favorite Nawroz dish. They remember staying awake with their families while it is cooking. Some students also like Ashak and Mantu, which are prepared for guests. These foods make them feel happy and proud of their culture.”
Ustad Nadia:“ During Nawroz, my students talk about the special meals in their homes. Most of them say they love Samanak and Haft Mewa the most because their families prepare it together. Some students also like Bolani, especially with potatoes or vegetables. For my students, these foods mean family time, happiness, and celebration during Nawroz in Badakhshan.”
