Portia, being the gorgeous, attractive woman she was, appeared in various literatures. She was one of the most popular Roman women! Although her appearances are mostly very brief insignificant, these appearances are enough to leave the audiences loving her! Her qualites were fully shown and she always leaves a perfect impression.
Portia appears as a child in Caesar’s Women, one of the seven novels by Colleen McCullough in the series Masters of Rome. She appears as a teenager in another novel Caesar, then as a young woman in The October Horse. Unfortunately she was depicted as a raving maniac whose insanity worsened as time goes by.
Portia appears in Thornton Wilder’s novel Ides of March. She was one of the main characters in the fourth part of the book.
Portia is referenced in Stephen Fry’s novel The Stars’ Tennis Balls when one of the characters is given the choice to kill himself with hot coals, just as Portia did in Shakespeare’s play.
