ROLAND-STORY COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT FEBRUARY, 2014 DMACC Center Offers Story County Students a Free Head Start on College A program from the Des Moines Area Community College could make your journey from high school to career both shorter and less expensive. The DMACC Career Academy — Hunziker Center in Ames offers high school students free classes in the areas of: • • • • • • • • • • Auto Collision Building Trades/Finish Carpentry Culinary Arts Visual Communications (Graphic Design/Web) Automotive Technology Criminal Justice Health Occupations Career Work Experience Teacher Academy Welding What’s in it for you? Plenty! First, it’s the perfect opportunity to get double the credit — both high school and college credit — for taking one class. That makes it possible to graduate college with a significant number of college credits, and that could let you finish your college degree and start earning money in your chosen career sooner than other students. Second, DMACC Hunziker Center courses are free to students in participating high schools. The average high school student takes credits worth $1500 at the Hunziker Center for no cost at all to the student or their families. That’s a significant savings on expensive college costs.
