ROIC
Flagship Project for Armenia
The Regional Open Innovation Campus (ROIC) is envisaged as a 20,000+ square meter
facility, which functions as a holistic STI ecosystem, starting from higher education to immersive
customer experience with deep technology. The ROIC will serve as a microcosm of a functioning
science and technology ecosystem that powers data science, biotechnology, advanced
materials, and microelectronics verticals and industries by housing partner universities' STEM
educational departments, R&D labs for scientific experimentations, incubation and
acceleration spaces, and an immersive customer experience area.
ROIC is foreseen to support the full lifecycle of innovation: from knowledge creation to scientific
discoveries, to company creation. The value creation chain starts from the STI ecosystem, which
brings all the actors of the process into ROIC. The process starts with students entering
universities. Some of the university graduates will continue their careers as researchers and stay
in the value creation process as researchers. The knowledge they acquired in Academia will
further be applied in the Experimentation Area , where they will work on the creation of
innovative solutions. This is where technology will be developed. At the next stage of the value
chain, technology will turn into a product with the help of entrepreneurs, coaches, and mentors,
coming from the STI ecosystem.
This stage will be supported by the Incubation Area , which will provide the necessary
environment for professionals with commercializable prototypes , and startups that need
business development support and/or co-working spaces. Once companies are created, they
will need rapid expansion through capital investments.
