ICEFIELDS PARKWAY
Named one of the world ’ s 10 best drives by National Geographic , Icefields Parkway is 232 km ( 144 mi ) of scenic highway — lined with more than 100 glaciers — that connects Jasper and Lake Louise . The entire route can be driven in just three hours , but there ’ s a full day ’ s worth of photo-worthy stops along the way , including Sunwapta Falls , the Jasper SkyTram , Athabasca Glacier on Columbia Icefield , and Peyto Lake .

Experienced scuba divers can don drysuits to visit a unique piece of history : the remains of a WW2 aircraft carrier prototype made of Pykrete ( wood pulp and ice ). The 1 / 50 scale model was code-named Habbakkuk and built in secret , to support Allied efforts , before being scuttled in Patricia Lake in 1943 . If a fullscale version of the carrier had been built , it would have been over 610 m ( 2,000 ft ) long — more than twice the size of the Titanic .
