David Duchovny spent filming The X-Files
in Vancouver, he complained publicly that
the city gets “400 inches of rain a day.” And
supposedly journalist Allan Fotheringham
described Vancouver as the Canadian city
with the best climate and the worst weather.
Despite this reputation, Vancouver has an
average annual precipitation of 1,117 mm
(44 in), less than Miami or New Orleans. Still,
it’s always smart to carry an umbrella.

ROCKY MOUNTAINEER 2018
Tuesday, February 20, 2018 12:24:40 PM
CRaFT beeR
Raise a glass to Vancouver’s craft-beer scene,
which is more popular than ever. In the
Brewery Creek area around Main Street, look
for 33 Acres, Brassneck, Main Street Brewing
and Red Truck. Further afield, top picks
include Parallel 49, Postmark Brewing, Powell
Street and Storm Brewing. Each spring, the
Vancouver Craft Beer Week Festival brings
more than 100 breweries and cideries to a
single venue for tastings, concerts and more.
wine On Tap
Even the most discerning of oenophiles has to
admit that wine on tap makes a lot of sense:
the wine is never exposed to oxygen, so it
stays fresh, and the entire process eliminates
wasteful packaging. If you haven’t yet tried
wine on tap, visit Vancouver Urban Winery or
any of a growing number of restaurants that
feature it, including Tap & Barrel, Grapes &
Soda, Forage, Burgoo, Provence Marinaside
and Cactus Club Cafe.
