STICKER BURRS
(sp. Cenchrus echinatus)
Also known as Mossman River Grass, Sticker
Burrs are at home in Rockport Texas. And they’ve
never been endangered in the least.
The Sticker Burr is native to both North and South
America, but in Australia, it’s an invasive species,
and their government has taken legal measures to
stop the spread of this noxious stickery weed that’s
sometimes called Galland’s Curse.
The Sticker Burrs (which are also
called Sand Burrs and sometimes
called Grass Burrs) ripen to purple
perfection during the late Summer
and early Fall. When you can no
longer pull them out of your flesh
without the little spikelets breaking off under your skin, they’re just
right.
LORE: In some places it’s
refered to as Buffel Grass,
Hedgehog Grass, Innocent
Weed, Seaforth Burr, Konpeito-Gusa, Se Mbulabula
and Vao Tui Tui.
