MONARCH BUTTERFLY
(sp. Danaus plexippus)
The Monarch is considered a type of
Milkweed Butterfly. It is certainly the
most famous of all the North American
Butterflies - migrating up from Mexico
to Canada in the Summer and returning
south in the Winter. The males are just
a little bigger than the females.
LORE:
Deforestation in southern
Mexico could soon wipeout the Monarch Butterfly’s habitat.
TROPICAL BUCKEYE BUTTERFLY
(sp. Junonia genoveva)
Commonly called the Mangrove Buckeye, this
medium size Butterfly can cycle through 3 or
4 generations from March to October. Their
range extends from Central America, up through
Mexico, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.
