ARROWHEADS IN ARANSAS
COUNTY
Arrowhead hunting around Rockport isn’t
something arrowhead hunters like to talk
about. Its serious and covert nature is about
on the level of dynamite fishing for our local, and mostly anonymous, arrowhead
enthusiasts. Just remember - if someone
shows you an arrowhead they found around
here, it’s impolite to ask them where they
found it.
These Arrowheads were found in Lamar,
Texas back in August of 1952.
Most of the flint arrow and spear points
in our area should belong to the Copane,
which would make them true Karankawa
Arrowheads. But other arrowheads have
been found here as well, including Clovis
Points (approx. 11,000 years old).
Remember, not everything called an ‘arrowhead’ went on the end of an arrow - some
are Spear Points and others are tools.
LORE: These are all Clovis Points. It has
been claimed that arrowheads like these have
been found in Aransas County.

Arrowheads such as this are not
uncommon in our area, along with
peices of pottery, and if you’re
lucky you might even find an old
Native American toy.
