The Rockford Public School District is fully accredited and state and nationally recognized as a Blue Ribbon District of Excellence and a 2012-13 Advanced Placement Achievement District. The Board of Education and staff are committed to providing a world-class education for all students. This exemplary educational system is a result of the collaborative efforts of parents, students, school and community. By working together, RPS provides opportunities for students to reach their full potential by placing emphasis on local, state and national curriculum standards, a strong character education program, and a variety of after-school learning opportunities.
Academic Programs The RPS curriculum is based upon standards that promote rigor and relevance. These standards set high expectations and are based upon the belief that all students will succeed. Some students will need additional time and support, but all students will learn and experience success. Students will learn content that will be relevant to their future plans, whether it be post-secondary education or the work force.
Preparing students for the global economy, RPS places emphasis on collaboration, problem solving, creativity and technology skills, while recognizing the importance of students learning a second language. The district currently offers four-year programs in French,

After-School Opportunities Students can choose to participate in a variety of co-curricular activities, with approximately 30 club sports / intramurals, awardwinning fine arts, or one of over 30 interscholastic athletic teams. The district supports participation in co-curricular activities to balance adolescent development.
Character Education At Rockford Public Schools, character education is an important part of the total educational program. Working together with parents, the district has created schools that develop responsible and caring students. Beginning with pre-school all the way through adult education, RPS emphasizes the importance of a common set of character traits that include friendship, respect, trust, citizenship, commitment, the value of diversity and other life skills. The Rockford Public Schools’ staff model these traits every day.
