For anglers , paddlers and naturalists alike , the Rogue River is one of Rockford ’ s greatest treasures . With its thriving fishery , changing scenery and fun water features Camp , the Rogue
Lake offers something for everyone . The dam in downtown Rockford divides the river into two distinct sections : the upper and lower Rogue . Each section has its own unique ecosystem and characteristics .

The Upper Rogue
The river above the Rockford dam flows through hundreds of acres of undisturbed public and private land . Whitetail deer , beaver and abundant waterfowl are common sights . Managed by the Michigan DNR , the upper Rogue boasts a healthy trout population . Anglers enjoy easy access , good fishing and solitude along these banks . The upper Rogue offers a fine and pleasant excursion for paddlers of all skill levels with its brisk current and mild rapids . The stretch between Grange Bridge and Friske Landing offers more challenge with its sharp bends and occasional sweepers .
The Lower Rogue
The river below the Rockford dam travels at a rapid pace as it races toward the Grand River . The lower Rogue offers excitement and intrigue worthy of its name , but most of the banks are privately owned and accessibility is limited .
