The track by track review of this month comes by the hand of the great
composer and leader of Nightwish, Tuomas Holopainen. Lots of fans
await eagerly the next album after “Imaginaerum”, although, our beloved Tuomas hasn’t been with his arms crossed, all of this time he has
been occupied working on The Life and Times of Scrooge, inspired by
the adventures of Scrooge Mc. Duck, which creator is Don Rosa. And
without a doubt it is a true music masterpiece.
We start with Glasgow 1877, where a voice of a narrator in first person
begins telling us the story with a musical base full of wind instrumentation that will be present throughout the song. Soon appears the angelic
voice of Johanna Kurkela, who will be doing the main vocals on the record. I have to say that the melodies we appreciate are purely magic,
with a full orchestra that reminds us of some of the most soft and heavenly Nightwish’ compositions. It’s a pretty relaxing piece where we begin the journey of this album.
When we least expect it a beautiful piano carried away by some choirs
in the background guides us to the second track Into The West. Some
introduction with the same relaxing tone of the previous one strikes in.
Suddenly a choir full of force begins singing along with an orchestra that
create a very warm and kind atmosphere that adds it a touch of “action”
to it and not so spiritual as the previous one; the choir will be present
through all the song developing that special touch that Tuomas always
