Moroccan Trilobites of the Atlas Mountains

One of the most spectacular examples of trilobite diversity are the Devonian specimens found in the Atlas Mountains area of Morocco. Long prized by collectors and museums, these specimens show off some fascinating examples of how trilobites evolved specializations to help them cope with their respective environments. Nine out of ten orders of trilobites are represented in these Devonian ancient seas deposits. Some exhibit fantastic spinosity, while others display elaborate cephalon or pygidium ornamentation, elongated "noses" or a "forked tongue". Rare species can demand hefty prices on the market, although it's "buyer beware" when purchasing these valuable specimens, as many forgeries flood online marketplaces and rock shops. Some of these fake specimens are ceramic, made out of polymer resins, can be real in part only, or pieced together from multiple fossils.
