Sports Review of the Twenties

2

This decade in review is a sporting dynasty. Dynasties with teams and players. Teams like the Canton Bulldogs and the Green Bay Packers and then players like Babe Ruth with the New York Yankees. The Olympics, outside of just American sports, appeared three times in this decade. 1920, 1924, and 1928 the Olympics were held around the world with countries competing for more than just golds. It was a decade to remember in sports.

In pro football, the Canton Bulldogs dominated the earlier years of the decade, while the Green Bay Packers finished strong. Akron, Chicago, Providence, Frankford, and Cleveland won championships as well throughout the decade.

In Major League baseball, the Yankees had a dynasty with winning three of the ten World Series this decade. They also had the best player in baseball in Babe Ruth who will become a legend and one of the best players baseball has ever seen. The Philadelphia Athletics won the last two yearsto round out the ten while teams such as St. Louis and the other team in New York, the Giants, won other years.

The Olympics of 1920 followed the end of World War 1. The Olympics were held in Belgium and surrounding coutnries like Germany, Hungary, and Bulgaria were not sent an invitation as well as in 1924 because of their acts in the war. These two Olympics were about more than the sports, but about each country needing to win and show the world why they are superior. The 1928 Olympics was special because it was the debut of the Olympic flame in the Opening Ceremonies.

These three sports and events were the main highlights of the past decade. Filled with glorious games and showings by players to rough times following the war and having all the countries join the Olympics. It has been a marvelous decade of sports.
