UPPER BODY
Why a Parka? The parka is primarily worn during rest breaks to maintain your body temperature in the cold and wind. We highly recommend an insulated hood to allow you to batten down the hatches and remain warm throughout any conditions.
What to Look for in a Hard Shell The hard shell jacket should be made of a waterproof, nylon material (such as Gore-Tex®, eVent®, WeatherEdge®, or Dry.Q™). A thinner and lighter weight jacket is ample, and ideal for the climb. It should have an attached hood for protection from the elements.
Hard Shell (Layer 4) A jacket made of rainproof material with an attached hood. We recommend a non-insulated jacket for this layer.

Parka (Layer 5) This expedition-style heavy parka should extend below the waist and must have an insulated hood. We recommend down rather than synthetic fill as down weighs less. The parka does not have to be waterproof, though water-resistant is a nice feature.
