Health & Safety Notice
Please take a few moments to read the important health and safety rules for the RMB Buffalo Regatta venue , and make sure you stay healthy and safe throughout the event .
By entering the East London Boating Association ( ELBA ) premises and RMB Buffalo Regatta venue , you agree to adhere to the ELBA safety rules and guidelines , as set out below , and declare that you accept being on the premises at your own risk . Furthermore , you indemnify ELBA and its organisers , sponsors and officials against any claim of whatsoever nature , and however arising , which may result from any activity on these premises .
Safety Rules
1 . All team representatives must report to the Regatta Safety Officer for a safety briefing before your start . You will not be allowed to participate if you have not signed the attendance register at the safety briefing . The Safety Officer can be found at Regatta Control .
2 . All persons entering the ELBA premises are required to sign-in at the entrance .
3 . All persons who enter the ELBA premises are required to act responsibly and to do everything reasonably expected to prevent injuries to themselves and to other persons , and to prevent loss to equipment .
4 . Report all injuries promptly , no matter how minor , to the Safety Officer on site .
5 . Qualified lifeguards are on the water – if someone is in danger , signal for help or notify the Regatta Control .
6 . DO NOT provide first aid if you do not have a qualification to do so . Red Alert is on site with a qualified medical representative located towards the entrance to the changing rooms . They also have an ambulance on standby .
7 . In the event of an emergency that requires site evacuation , the horn will be blasted continuously , and an Officer will announce evacuation over the loudspeakers . Proceed in an orderly manner towards the emergency assembly ( located at the start of the gravel road at the entrance ). DO NOT RUN .
8 . If you hear thunder , find shelter immediately .
9 . Three blasts from the sound horn indicate a high-risk lightning event . When you hear the horn going off three times , get off the water and find shelter immediately and get off the water .
10 . Only seek shelter in a fully enclosed substantial building . This means a brick building , with a cement floor , such as a club house , change rooms , or boat bays .
11 . DO NOT seek shelter under trees , small outdoor buildings , open areas , on or near to water bodies .
12 . DO NOT sit on any balustrading . 13 . DO NOT use fire equipment if you do not know how to use it . 14 . DO NOT interfere in a civil disturbance .
