A 150 YEARS OF HISTORY and 100 YEARS OF ROWING
The Selborne College Rowing Club , together with the East London Boating Association , is proud to host the 62 nd Selborne Regatta , as part of the school ’ s 150th Anniversary year , and looks forward to welcoming you to take up the challenge on the Buffalo River on Friday 11 February .
The Selborne regatta traditionally offers some of the most nail-bitingly close racing of the season , and the short 500m course makes it possible for athletes to compete numerous times across all the boat classes . The timing of the regatta on a Friday , nestled between the heats of the RMB Buffalo Regatta on Thursday and its finals on Saturday , ensures that this weekend of racing is not to be missed .
As the oarsmen compete at the highest level , there is always great spirit on the banks , encouraging camaraderie amongst athletes and coaches , in an atmosphere where lasting memories are created and new friendships are built .
“ It is with great excitement that Selborne College celebrates its 150th Anniversary in 2022 , and we invite all to join the Selborne College Rowing Club , the oldest school rowing club in South Africa , as we celebrate our centenary . This is an opportunity to compete , to build friendships , and create memorable moments out on the water and on the bank ,” says Murray Chandler , Master in Charge .

• Selborne College Rowing Club would like to extend an invitation to all rowers , participants and coaches to attend a social evening of great food , music and friendship at Old Selbornian Club on Saturday 12 February . Tickets will be on sale during both regattas , along with more details . COVID-19 has severely impacted school rowing in South Africa , but we believe that through our combined efforts with ELBA , with all necessary safety regulations and precautions in place , that we will create a safe environment for all participants and supporters .
