The Macallan guarantees warmth in Brighton
The sense of achievement for teams reaching Brighton today gains an extra-warm glow from
The Macallan. We’ re delighted to welcome the single-malt whiskey from Speyside as our new partner for the event this year.
This famous distillery is as time-honoured as the Veteran Car Run itself, with a history stretching back some 200 years. And the maturing process in oak casks is highly appropriate, matching the spirit of preserving and enjoying very special motor cars.
As our official‘ Finisher’, The Macallan is serving hot toddies to everyone who reaches the end of the Run on Madeira Drive in Brighton.
Barry Guess
Earlier this year, the Veteran Car Run Team was greatly saddened by the loss of Clerk of the Course, Barry Guess, who passed away after a short illness. Barry was involved in the Run since 2021 and made a significant contribution to the event during those five years. He is much missed, both as a valued member of the VCR team and for his diligence, expertise and outstanding operational skills honed over many decades of motorsport and motoring event organisation.
Martin Douglas- Clerk of the Course for the Run
Following the passing of Barry Guess, Martin Douglas has stepped into the role of Clerk of the
Course, and we welcome him to his new position. Martin served as Barry’ s Deputy Clerk on the event from 2022, so is already thoroughly familiar with all aspects of the senior role. He brings with him many years of invaluable logistics and operational experience, both from his long careers in operational roles with DHL and BMW, and from some three decades of serving as organiser or Clerk of the Course on many stage rallies.
Martin is also a keen motorsport navigator, beginning with treasure hunt and road rallies while at university and progressing to stage rallies, winning a round of the British Rally Championship in 2002 with driver Phil Morgan. In addition to his work with the Veteran Car Run, Martin remains involved with modern rallies too and often forms part of the safety convoy responsible for checking the course prior to the first competitor heading out onto a stage.
